Rental Terms
All car rentals in Cornwall are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pick-up. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance provisions, applicable charges, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Cornwall, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category and held for the minimum period noted in the Rental Agreement, is required. Additionally, valid identification, proof of current address, and payment information, including a security deposit, must be provided. Any extra conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations for car hire can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Cornwall office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally payable upon collecting your vehicle. All pricing is listed in British Pounds (£) and includes VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document the findings. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please communicate with us if you expect a delay. You are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges accrued during your rental, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Coverage
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. You can find detailed coverage information and excess amounts in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damages or loss up to the insurance excess, unless further coverage is obtained. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse is your responsibility, regardless of any insurance policy.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice you provide. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that cancelling late or failing to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other dangerous driving practices. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unapproved drivers is not allowed. Operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, within designated passenger and weight limits. Driving outside the agreed geographical area requires prior consent.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Cornwall will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount paid for the rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liabilities arising from negligence leading to death or personal injury, or instances of fraud.
9. Cornwall Law Compliance
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
10. Amendments to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes will take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
